...the relocation from Nashville to Niceville

About a year & a half ago, I received an interesting surprise. A Triple-Coronary-Bypass. Yeah, I know…I did a double-take, too. I wish not to bore you with it  here…there’s a blog post about it if you’re curious.

The sugar-white beaches of Florida were always on the horizon for me. Ain’t gonna lie, the unexpected brush with heaven’s gate lit a fire under me. So, I packed up my gear, said ‘adios’ to Nashville, and relocated my business to the Gulf Coast, where the shoreline really is a dramatic emerald color. Now, every mornin’ when I wake up I ask myself…

“Why didn’t you do this sooner?”

Having started my photography career on the beaches of Malibu, CA back during the Jurassic period…(a side hustle as a struggling actor)… I can’t express the joy I feel to get my toesies back in the sand. Happy as a clam, I am.

On this page, I have dropped a few random galleries for your easy viewing. Yeah, I know…I’m showin’ off a bit. But, I’m very proud of my three decades of captured images. Images that range from professional athletes, actors, beauty queens, & regular joes in need of stand out professional headshots. I hope you enjoy them!

The question I get most often asked is…”who’s your favorite to shoot?”….and without a doubt, the late, great Muhammad Ali. And, sadly, before his way-too-early exit…Robin Williams.

Destin Family Portraits

I’ve posted a small, fun gallery below including some of the celebs I’ve been priviledged to work with over the years and continue to do so, even still. Some of these images were captured a couple of decades ago…some, a couple of months ago.

...here's the process at Destin Family Portraits

At Destin Family Portraits we sure do know how to have a good ol’ time while making you look darn good! We’re expert at that actually. The key to that success is this…preparation. We’ve got a four-step process smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy peanut butter, and it all starts with a good old chinwag.

  1. First of all, we’ll have a chat on the phone…

Pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of joe, and let’s talk. In the meantime, you have filled out your info on the contact form here. This gives me the information I need to initially understand what you’re seeking. The very first question I’ll ask is… “what are you gonna do with the images?” Just gonna share ’em with friends and family? Post ’em on all your socials? Perhaps a gorgeous piece of gallery-wrapped wall art? Or the creme de la creme, a Italian handcrafted, leather-bound keepsake book that will last for the ages? (this last option is to die for btw)

In this here consultation, we’ll chat about your vision, ponder over some ideas, and even swap tips about what wardrobe to prepare for the shoot. We’ll talk about when the sun’s just right for that golden glow on our sandy studio – the beach! Typically, I’ll shoot a session either in the early morning right after sunrise, or late afternoon. It’s called ‘golden hour’. Why? Because the light is much less harsh, producing less hard shadows on the face. We’re after an even, pretty light for face portraiture. Sunrise & sunset are the two times of day we can reasonably expect these conditions. Yes, I get it…nobody wishes to get up at the crack of dawn to take photos. We’ll always try to accomodate a late afternoon shoot.

  1. Planning Your Family Portraits

Once we’ve chewed over your vision, we’ll hatch a plan for your photoshoot. We’ll pick out the best beach spot, figure out the perfect time when the lighting’s just right, and plan the sequence of shots for those picture-perfect moments. We’ll give you some tips and tricks to help you prepare for the big day, so you’ll show up cooler than a cucumber and ready for some fun in the sun!

  1. The Big Show

When the day of the photoshoot arrives, we’re all about keeping things as relaxed as a cat in a sunbeam. Either myself, or my assistant will provide you with examples of poses and settings, making sure everyone’s comfortable and looking their best. And don’t you worry, we’ve got a knack for coaxing genuine grins from folks of all ages, ensuring those precious moments are captured with authenticity.

  1.  Wall Art, Digital, Both?

After we wrap up the shoot, we’ll take a few days & polish your photos to make sure they’re the bee’s knees. There will be some that will tossed back in the ocean, like a manky fish. Then we’ll present the finished products to you in an online gallery. This gallery is to help you make your choices, depending on which package you have purchased. We are happy to consult with you thru this process and help you pick out your favorites, with the help of a professional eye.

Maybe you fancy a grand canvas print for your living room, a framed print for your office, or a keepsake photo album. And here’s the kicker – we’re so sure you’ll love your wall art, we offer a money-back guarantee!

Whether the end destinationfor your images is wall art, a beautiful coffee table album, or merely sharing them on social media. We’ll bend over backwards to make sure everything is tickety-boo!

...frequently asked questions

How do I book a photo session?

Our sessions are easy-peasy to book. Simply call 615.915.7694. We'll take your info, then make sure we have an availability during your trip timeframe.

What size group can you shoot?

We shoot couples up thru large groups.

What beaches do you shoot on?

Typically, we'll shoot from Navarre Beach up thru Ft. Walton Beach, thru Destin, thru Henderson Beach. But if you're accomodations are farther east we'll do our best to work with you. Just ask.

What should we wear for our beach family portrait session?

Once you're shoot is scheduled, we send you a digital packet with wardrobe ideas. But at the end of the day, it's your jam...we'll only offer suggestions if you wish them.

What time of day do you recommend for beach portraits?

Golden Hour. We shoot mostly in the late afternoon, about an hour before sunset. That's the time most pleasant for natural daylight portraiture. Sometimes, early morning is necessary for scheduling purposes, but, typically, late afternoon.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our session?

A rain date is planned upon our first phone interview, as a contingency. Sometimes, the weather is overcast. That is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, overcast is perfect weather for lighting. It's like a giant softbox in the studio. There are times when there will be rain-outs. It happens - refunds are made.

How many photos can I expect?

50 -100 exposures for smaller groups. 100 -200 exposures for larger groups. Understand, we shoot a LOT of images. This guarantees we have quality images of offer. I have a saying..."we keep what we like...and throw the rest away." It works out to minimum 50 images - small group. Minimum 100 - large group.

Are your photos edited?

Yes. On some level, every image that leaves the studio is 'polished'. That includes adjustments to color, contrast, focus, & white balance. Women get a tiny bit of skin polish, as well. Also, it's the beach...it's windy. Your hair might be a beautiful mess. Rejoice & enjoy. Advanced editing is available as an add-on.

How long does a photo session last?

Again, that can depend on the size of the group. But, 45-90 minutes is a reasonable time frame.

How can I pay and when is payment due?

You may pay with Venmo, Paypal, & good ol' American $$$. Credit Cards are accepted of course, with a small fee added. There is a $150 deposit required to get on the calendar. The $$$ balance is due the day of the photo session.

When will I receive my photos?

You will receive a 'sneak peek' of your photos within 48 hrs via an online gallery. From that viewing you'll make your selections. Your selections package will be delivered to you digitally in 5-7 business days.
